In America in the beginning, the performance arts achievements of the young Maureen FitzSimons (who we know as Maureen O'Hara) would definitely have put her in the category of child prodigies. This was a natural trait for a child born in Ireland, surrounded by talented parents and a loving, supportive family. Maureen joined this wonderful sanctuary in Ranelagh, Ireland on August 17th of 1920. Marguerita FitzSimons' mom, Lilburn, was a contralto. Charles FitzSimons managed a Dublin-based company and was the owner of a portion in "The Shamrock Rovers," an eminent Irish soccer team. Maureen FitzSimons was second from a family of six FitzSimons. Peggy FitzSimons Florrie Charles B. Fitzsimons Margot Fitzsimons James O'Hara rounded off this stunning group. Maureen enjoyed rough sports as a kid and was very adept in them. This passion was combined with an equally natural talent of performing. She took home almost all Feis Award for Theatre and Drama which her nation had to offer. When she turned 14, she was invited into the world-renowned Abbey Theater and pursued her dream of classical theater and operatic singing.
