His father, Charles FitzSimons, managed a business in Dublin as well as owned a part of the well-known Irish football team "The Shamrock Rovers." Maureen was an athlete at heart and enjoyed playing tough sporting games. Her natural interest and her talent for performing was remarkable. She was awarded nearly all Feis Award for Theatre and Drama the country could offer. At the age of 14, she was accepted by the Abbey Theater accepted her and allowed her to live out her dream in classical theater as well as singing opera.
